The Pilates method is a fitness movement system developed by Joseph Hubertus Pilates in the early 20th century to condition the entire body and engage the mind.
Classical Pilates is taught in an integrated & systematic manner with one movement flowing seamlessly to the next whilst stretching, strengthening and balancing the body.
Prime Pilates is proud to teach Classical Pilates and aims to preserve the integrity of Joseph Pilates’ work by teaching Pilates based on the original classical techniques he devised.
We include small changes to reflect modern day advancements and a greater understanding of the moving body whilst remaining close to the original exercises designed and taught by Joseph Pilates.
The expansive range of exercises on both the mat and equipment add variety to each workout, enabling people of all levels of physical fitness to practice Pilates.

Six guiding principles of Pilates are inherent in every exercise to create a mind-body-spirit connection:
CONCENTRATION – our mind controls our body, therefore to perform the movements properly, we must concentrate fully.
“Concentrate on the correct movement each time you exercise,
lest you do them improperly and thus lose all vital benefits of their value“ – Joseph Pilates
CENTERING – the Powerhouse is the focal point of all Pilates exercises and all movement comes from the centre.
“A unique trinity of a balanced body, mind and spirit” – Joseph Pilates
CONTROL – the original exercises we know as the Matwork were originally referred to as Contrology.
“Mastery of the mind over the complete control of the body“ – Joseph Pilates
BREATHING – the natural rhythm of the breath enhances fluid movement and sets the rhythm of the exercise.
“To properly deflate the lungs is an art in itself, and this final step in correct breathing is least understood” – Joseph Pilates
PRECISION – working with precision helps to improve movement quality, allowing for proper body alignment and injury prevention.
“In Pilates, nothing is haphazard” – Joseph Pilates
FLOW – move with grace and ease, Pilates movements performed correctly are light and fluid.
“Limber and stretch muscles and ligaments so that your
body will be as supple as that of a cat….” – Joseph Pilates
